Street in Syria’s Qamishli renamed for Armenian martyr
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Martyrs’ Families Council from al-Wusta neighborhood in Syria’s Qamishli, the Armenian Social Council, and the Armenian unit known as the Martyr Nubar Ozanyan Brigade held a ceremony naming a street after the Armenian fighter Nubar Ozanyan.
As the ceremony began, a minute of silence was observed, followed by several speeches by those in attendance.
Jamil Amed, Armenian language teacher and historian, called the occasion “a blessed day for us to remember and call a neighborhood in Qamishli after the martyr Nubar Ozanyan, who fought for freedom.”
“We are proud to name a street after an Armenian fighter, and we thank the families of the martyrs in Qamishli and the municipality.”
Imad Tatrian, member of the Armenian Social Council, told North Press that “Nubar participated in many campaigns and gave his life for freedom.” Tatrian added that Ozanyan was killed by a shell fired by terrorist groups near Sere Kaniye in 2017.
“Even the Armenian column is named after him and he is considered a symbol for us as Armenians, and he was a fighter and a patriot,” Tatrian added.
“He was trying hard to show the world the truth of the massacres that occurred against the Armenians by Turkey.”
