Fistfight erupts between National Defense officials in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – A quarrel turned into a fistfight between two leaders of the pro-Syrian government National Defense Forces (NDF) in Suwayda, south Syria, due to mutual accusations on Friday.
NDF Officer of the southern region Rasheed Saloum, accompanied by armed members, raided the office of Suwayda NDF official Adham Abu Zaidan, Mahmud al-Zain (a pseudonym), a NDF member who preferred to be unnamed for security reasons said.
The quarrel turned into a fistfight after Saloum asked Abu Zaidan to vacate his office, accusing him of not implementing assigned tasks during the previous days, he told North Press.
Before being promoted to NDF Officer for Syria’s southern region, Rasheed Saloum, who is from Shahba, north Suwayda, occupied the position of NDF official in Suwayda for three years.
Residents and figures in Suwayda accuse NDF officials and militants of carrying out kidnappings and assassinations in the area, in addition to managing drug trade in the south and also being loyal to Iran and Hezbollah.
The quarrel concluded after Rasheed Saloum and his companions headed to the Syrian capital Damascus, al-Zain added.
Suwayda NDF command seized the house of British-Syrian television personality Faisal al-Qasim in the town of Qanawat and made it their headquarters, while the southern region command’s headquarters is located in Damascus.
