Fisherman was killed by Turkish border guards Syria’s in Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A fisherman was killed and another was wounded, Thursday evening, when Turkish border guards (gendarmerie) fired at them from the Orontes River, west of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

Local sources from the region told North Press that the Turkish gendarmes shot directly at a group of young men who were fishing in the Orontes River near the city of Darkush, which borders Turkey.

The shooting killed Adnan Akil, and wounded another who were residents of the city of Idlib, according to the sources.

On April 29, a farmer was shot dead by the Turkish Gendarmerie while working on agricultural lands near the town of Khirbet al-Jouz, in Harem, north of Idlib.

Activists on social media called on residents of villages near the Turkish border to carry out protests denouncing the Turkish gendarmerie’s practices against the region’s farmers.

The Turkish gendarmerie targets any movements near the border, which has left a number of civilians dead in several areas amid the increase in smuggling operations in the region.
