SDF denies ISIS prison rebellion in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, director of the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Farhad Shami denied that any rebellion of ISIS members took place in al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah.

Earlier on Thursday, units of the SDF deployed in the vicinity of al-Sina’a prison, in Ghweiran neighborhood, south of Hasakah.

On Thursday at noon, military helicopters likely belonging to the Global Coalition flew over the area surrounding the prison.

“The deployment of security forces in the vicinity of the prison comes within the framework of the precautionary operations that it carries out before any process of the prison’s maintenance and restoration of its sections,” Shami said in a written statement.

The Syrian Democratic Forces detain thousands of extremist militants, most of whom surrendered during the battle of Baghouz, which ended with the SDF taking control of the last stronghold of ISIS east of the Euphrates River.

The SDF and the Autonomous Administration have called on countries whose nationals are in northeast Syria’s camps and prisons to repatriate their citizens, amid the absence of any solution to the crisis of these detainees.
