Doctors strike in Serekaniye, accusing pro-Turkey groups of stealing their salaries.

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, doctors and workers at Sere Kaniye Hospital (Ras al-Ain) went on strike after not receiving their salaries for months, accusing pro-Turkey opposition groups of stealing them.

Since October of 2019, the city of Sere Kaniye and its countryside have been under the control of Turkish forces and armed opposition groups.

Speaking to North Press, a local source said that workers of the city hospital protested in front of the hospital, accusing the opposition groups of stealing their salaries.

Most of the doctors and staff have not received their salaries for months, without any reasons given, the source added.

This coincides with the deteriorating health situation and the widespread increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus in the city.

Media close to the opposition reported that the total number of infections in the city has increased, reaching 2,000 infections and about six deaths so far.

In mid-April, hundreds of residents protested in the city of Sere Kaniye for more than a week in front of the local council that Turkey established in the city, due to the deteriorating economic and living conditions.

The population lives in abject poverty due to the lack of job opportunities, widespread unemployment, and lack of the basic necessities.
