Turkish border guards kill farmer in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a farmer was shot to death by Turkish border guards (Gendarmerie) while working land in the Harem region, north of Idlib, northwest Syria.
Local sources from the region told North Press that the Gendarmerie directly shot at agricultural land near the town of Khirbet al-Jouz in Harem.
The shooting immediately killed Mustafa Wajib al-Jundi, a resident of the area, according to the sources.
On April 21, a displaced woman was killed by the Gendarmerie while working on agricultural land north of Idlib, and a young displaced man from Raqqa was tortured to death by the Turkish Gendarmerie while trying to cross the Turkish border.
Most of those trying to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes in light of the lack of other ways to reunite their families or secure work to meet their needs.
Activists told North Press that the Gendarmerie deliberately shot civilians trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border.
Dozens of civilians are arrested on a daily basis and tortured cruelly, in addition to being detained for long hours, according to activists.
