Source in Syria’s Qamishli reveals terms of permanent agreement in al-Tai neighborhood
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a negotiating source said in the recent days’ talks in Qamishli, northeast Syria, that the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) will remain in the points they took within al-Tai neighborhood.
Speaking to North Press, the source said that all members of National Defens affiliated with the Syrian government will leave the neighborhood and the residents will return to their homes.
Earlier on Sunday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) said that they had reached a permanent truce after violent clashes that began last week between them and the National Defense groups in the neighborhood.
The agreement comes after a three-day meeting between representatives of the Asayish and the Syrian government, with Russian mediation, to find a solution to the ongoing clashes between the Asayish and the National Defense Forces.
The source added that “the National Defense militia will leave al-Tai neighborhood completely, and will not be located near any of the front lines with the Asayish,” the source added.
The Asayish statement stated that the truce, which was guaranteed by the Syrian Democratic Forces and mediated by the Russian forces, is linked to “the absence of any violations by the National Defense Militia towards our forces.”
The Russian military police and Asayish will conduct patrols within the neighborhood, according to the source.
The Asayish indicated that “the people of al-Tai neighborhood who left their homes due to the escalation carried out by the militia can return to it, but after reviewing our security points to secure their entry and ensure the safety of their properties.”
The source stated that “civilians will return to their homes, starting from tomorrow, and the southern Belt Road will be opened for popular movement.”
At the time of this report, security sources reported that the ceasefire was violated by the NDF in Helko neighborhood in Qamishli; it is still unknown how this will affect the agreement and the return of residents.
