Syrian government doubles gasoline price
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Syrian government raised the price of gasoline by more than 50%, amid the worsening fuel crisis in its areas.
The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection announced, on its Facebook page, that it had amended the price of a liter of 90 octane premium gasoline for the quantities allocated on the smart card to 750 Syrian pounds (SYP) per liter after it was 475 SYP, an increase of about 58%.
The price of unsubsidizdd gasoline also increased to 2,000 SYP per liter from 1,300 SYP, an increase of nearly 54 %.
The ministry also decided to set the price of a household propane tank at 3,850 SYP, compared with 2,700 SYP in the past.
Earlier Thursday, the Central Bank of Syria doubled the dollar exchange rate for banks and exchange companies.
The bank published on its Facebook page about the rise in the dollar exchange rate for banks and exchange companies from 1,256 to 2,512 Syrian pounds per dollar.
