SDF praises EU condemnation of Turkey’s occupation of Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi said in a post on his Twitter account that the SDF welcomes “the EU parliament’s resolution calling for the withdrawal of the illegal Turkish occupation forces from northern Syria.”

Abdi added that the SDF shares “the EU parliament’s concerns over ethnic cleansing attempts by Turkey against Kurds in Syria.”

The European Parliament adopted a draft resolution accusing Turkey of committing violations and calling on the country to withdraw its soldiers from Syria’s north, calling the occupation a “violation of international law” and specifically referencing the invasion of Sere Kaniye in October 2019.

The report also condemned Turkey’s illegal arrests and transfers of individuals from “occupied Northern Syria” and added that Turkey “jeopardised peace in Syria, the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.”
