SDF refutes Reporters Without Borders accusations
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued a statement in response to the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) report in which it accused the SDF of arresting three journalists.
In its statement, the SDF confirmed that its forces are not responsible for public law or taking actions against individuals.
“As a military force, the Syrian Democratic Forces is not responsible for public law enforcement and is not authorized to take legal action against individuals,” the SDF said.
“Legal action concerning individuals in northeast Syria falls under the responsibility of judicial and law enforcement institutions and Internal Security Forces (Asayish) of the Autonomous Administration,” the statement added.
The SDF pointed out that their forces are not responsible, associated, or involved in the claims of arrests as mentioned by Reporters Without Borders.
On March 8, the RSF issued a report on its official website saying that “the SDF has arrested three reporters in the past few weeks,” calling for the release of those still held.
