18 coronavirus cases in government hospital in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Zaid al-Sharity Hospital in the city of Suwayda recorded 18 new cases of coronavirus which were admitted to the isolation ward.

“18 corona infections, moderate to severe, have been admitted to the isolation department of the Suwayda State Hospital,” a government medical source at the Directorate of Health in Suwayda told North Press.

The source added, “coronavirus, and its mixing with seasonal flu and allergic diseases such as asthma, may increase the incidence of infection among the population of Suwayda in the coming days.”

With new cases today, the total number of infections recorded in Suwayda reached 854, including 87 deaths, according to the medical source.

“We are at the beginning of new epidemiological activity, which will reach its climax later,” a doctor specializing in chest diseases in Zaid al-Sharity Hospital told North Press.

He pointed out that “the registration of new infections, and growing numbers during the past two days, was caused by laxity and recklessness in wearing masks in gatherings in the markets.”

He added, “The government’s laxity in prevention methods is one of the most significant reasons for coronavirus’ return.”
