Ain Issa Civil Council: Town will not be handed to regime forces

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Ain Issa Civil Council co-chair Mustafa Muhammad said on Wednesday that “war propaganda which claims that the people are demanding the area be handed to the regime isn’t true.”

“The recent attacks of Turkey and its mercenaries on Ain Issa and its countryside aim to displace the people, to sabotage and occupy the region,” the co-chair added.

For more than two weeks, Turkish forces and the opposition groups have been shelling and attempting to infiltrate the villages of Jahbal, Mushairfa and Sayda, northeast of Ain Issa.

In October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with the US and another with Russia, after the Turkish military operation in Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.

However, violations of the ceasefire by Turkey and its affiliated opposition groups occur on a regular basis, “despite the presence of the Russian guarantor, which takes a mute spectator position without making any moves,” Muhammad explained.

He indicated that the Civil Council continues its duties in providing services to the residents of the town despite the daily bombardment that affects its outskirts.

“The departments and institutions affiliated with the administration, and some of the people, are still present in the area despite the repeated daily attacks on the area and the shelling of civilians,” he said.

“The townspeople suffer from terror and fear of shelling. There are children and old people in the town; there is a fear of indiscriminate shelling on a daily basis,” he added.

Tel Abyad Military Council commander Riyad al-Khalaf said on Tuesday that the previous agreement with the Russians regarding the establishment of military observation points in Ain Issa is still unchanged.

The Russian guarantor has so far been silent about the violations and bombing of civilians in the town and its countryside, al-Khalaf added.
