Turkish drones target government sites, SDF counter opposition advance north Syria

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish drones shelled on Tuesday, the Syrian government positions in the countryside of Tel Abyad, while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) countered advancement attempts by the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups in the town of Ain Issa north Raqqa.

The Turkish heavy shelling on the town started last night, a military source from Ain Issa told North Press.

On Tuesday, the Turkish drones targeted the government posts in the village of Koperlek in Tel Abyad countryside, while the latter managed to drop down a Turkish drone, the sources added.

The Turkish-backed armed opposition groups attacked Ain Issa camp and the villages of Ma’alak and Saida north Ain Issa in an attempt to advance there, but the SDF countered it.

This was coincided with heavy shelling that targeted the town with more than 200 mortars, according to local sources.

Medical sources in the hospital of the town stated that eight civilians were wounded in the shelling.

The shelling damaged the electricity wires cutting off power to the town.

Earlier today, Majed Shebli, an SDF official, told North Press that Russian forces kept watching the shelling on the town of Ain Issa and the neighboring villages by Turkish forces.

There are in Ain Issa, Syrian government posts and a Russian base which were formed after understandings with the SDF last year following the Turkish aggression against the area.

The town has been witnessing continued shelling for a year without any deterrence by the Russian guarantor.

The Turkish shelling increases the residents’ concerns, despite the two ceasefire agreements signed between Russia and Turkey, and America and Turkey last year.
