Massive Turkish convoy to Syria’s Idlib, reports of military operation, sources
ISTANBUL, Syria (North Press) – A source of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) said, the massive Turkish military convoy which entered Idlib two days ago, comes within the framework of Turkish preparations for any approaching military operation that may be launched by Syrian government forces and their supporters.
This Turkish convoy was the “biggest” of its kind which Turkey sent to the area, local sources told North Press.
The convoy headed towards Zawiya Mountain, southern Idlib, where the Turkish bases and posts deployed, according to the sources.
The sources revealed that the Turkish army established an observatory post in the town of Ruwaiha near the frontlines with the government forces, eastern Zawiya Mountain.
The Turkish reinforcements to Idlib coincided with Turkish withdrawal from its posts, the first of which was Morek north Hama countryside.
“All posts from which Turkish forces withdrew, were in the government-held areas, but they moved them to areas in Zawiya Mountain,” HTS source told North Press.
“The military convoys headed towards Zawiya Mountain, turning it into a Turkish military barracks,” the sources added.
Turkey sends reinforcements to Zawiya Mountain “because the regime wants to take control over the area as it is the gateway to Idlib and near M4 Highway,” according to the source.
“All parties expect a military operation that is being prepared against Idlib, and Turkey addresses the issue militarily,” the source noted.
“Turkey did not intend to decrease its forces in Syria, and what was going on was merely a repositioning,” Turkish sources previously stated in press statements.
A source of the Syrian National Army (SNA) called Abu Obada Idlibi, said “I do not expect new developments in the foreseeable future.”
“The Turkish movements have not stopped in Zawiya Mountain for months, and what is noticed is the strengthening of the Turkish positioning in the form of an arc, starting from the countryside of Aleppo and before Ghab Plain,” He pointed out.
“We can predict that this positioning is to protect the area from any possible attack, and vice versa,” Idlibi added.
