Syrian government forces demand handover of wanted persons in Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Syrian government forces have demanded notables and local armed groups in Daraa governorate, southern Syria, hand over wanted individuals and weapons depots belonging to local armed groups.
A few days ago, Daraa Governorate witnessed unrest and confrontations between local armed groups and government forces, which ended with the latter’s withdrawal after the intervention of Russian forces.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held between leaders of the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps, notables from the town of Kark, and leaders of the Fourth Division of the Syrian government forces.
According to a source close to the Eighth Brigade in attendance, the meeting resulted in an agreement to allow government forces to enter the town and search 19 homes in search of wanted persons, without compromising the residents and their properties under the security of the Fifth Corps.
The source added that government forces demanded the handover of weapons depots belonging to local armed groups present in the homes of notables in the towns of Kark, Rakhm and al-Hirak.
Last week, the town witnessed an attack by the government forces of the Fourth Division and the Syrian Air Force Intelligence, as clashes developed between them and local armed groups, causing deaths and injuries.
Sources also indicated that the 52nd Mechanized Brigade of the government forces moved from the town of Al-Musifra in the eastern countryside of Daraa, towards the eastern entrance to the town of al-Harak.
The city of Daraa al-Balad, the stronghold of the central and anti-government committees, in addition to the eastern countryside of the governorate, is witnessing a state of security alert for the local armed groups.
This comes after government forces, reinforced by their armed groups, stormed the plains of al-Shiyah area and al-Nakhlah neighborhood in Daraa city on Monday.
