Explosive device kills opposition official in Syria’s Bab
AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – An official in the Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition was killed on Wednesday, and his father seriously injured, when an explosive device planted on his vehicle detonated in the city of Bab, Syria.
Bab city, 30 kilometers from the southern Turkish borders, has been under the control of the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups since 2017.
The blast took place near the heart hospital behind the headquarters of the local council of the Syrian Interim Government, a Syrian opposition government based in Turkey and associated with the Syrian National Coalition, according to local sources.
“The explosion killed Hamdo Hamadi, a prominent official of the Sham Legion, and wounded his father who was accompanying him,” the source told North Press.
Sham Legion is a group of the National Front for Liberation, which is a Syrian opposition group close to Turkey which supports Turkish military efforts in the de-escalation zone.
Opposition-held areas in northwest Syria have been witnessing security chaos, including repeated explosions, amid the inability of the opposition groups to calm security conditions in the area.
On October 6, a VBIED targeted a gathering of people in the center of Bab city, killing more than 17 civilians and wounding others.
