Autonomous Administration imposed full lockdown on Derik’s northeastern Syria

(North Press) – The Crisis Cell of the Autonomous Administration in the Jazira region approved imposing a full lockdown on the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah) and its countryside for two weeks, starting from the November 6.

The decision included the closure of all schools, institutions, places of worship, markets, industry shops, stadiums, restaurants and private clinics.     

The decision excludes vegetable stores, foodstuffs, located within the popular neighborhoods from 6:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

According to the Health Committee in the Jazira region, Derik currently tops the ranking of the cities with most coronavirus infections in northeastern Syria.  

The decision determined the work of public and private hospitals to receive emergency cases only, with pharmacies remaining open according to the shift schedule.

Also, the decision banned entry and exit to and from the city and its countryside, except in emergency cases, with the exception of foodstuff, vegetables, fuel, and medical cars, in addition to the cars of bread distributors.  

The decision also imposes a curfew inside the city, which is subject to accountability. While determining the work of management institutions on service institutions, with reducing the staff working in them as needed.

The Crisis Cell called on citizens to adhere to wearing masks and the rules of physical distancing.  

So far, 16 people have died, as a result of infection with coronavirus in Derik.

Earlier on Tuesday, the spokeswoman for the Health Committee in the Jazira region, Rojin Ahmad, told North Press that they are about to “impose a complete closure on the city in an attempt to reduce the number of infections and limit the spread of the virus.”  

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria approved a partial lockdown on all areas of its control for 10 days starting from October 30.
