Three tribal leaders injured in attack in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three dignitaries from tribes in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor were injured on Monday after their vehicle was targeted by unknown persons on the road between the towns of Jedid Akidat and al-Sabha in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
A North Press correspondent reported that unknown individuals fired on the vehicle of Sheikh Nasser al-Tarami, head of the al-Bukamal Sheikhs’ Association, who was accompanied by two notables from the Jedid Akidat clan. All three were wounded.
The wounded were brought to a hospital in Deir ez-Zor and their health status is unknown.
Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing security chaos since the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the region in 2019, with explosions, ambushes, and assassination attempts targeting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), members of the local administration, and even tribal figures and notables. Both local residents and administration blame ISIS, the Syrian government, and Iran for sowing discord and chaos in the area.
