To reduce Coronavirus spread, Syria’s Kobani schools shorten days of attendance
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Education Board in the Euphrates region started on Saturday, implementing a new system of school hours in the schools of the city of Kobani and its countryside, northern Syria.
Last week, the Education Board in the Euphrates region issued a circular on the need to achieve the rules of physical distancing inside schools to preserve the health of students and prevent the spread of corona pandemic in schools.
On Saturday, Kobani recorded 44 new infections with coronavirus, according to the Health Board in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Khaled Jarada, Member of the General Administration of Kobani Schools, said, “the general administration of schools began on Saturday, to implement the circular in schools with a high student population.”
“The students of the same shift will be divided into two groups so that each group attends only three days a week,” Jarada said.
“The aim of implementing the circular is to reduce the number of the students per class to no more than 18 students, in order to protect students and teachers from corona pandemic,” he added.
Jarada also noted that the resolution will be applied to schools that have about 30 or more students per class.
Subjects like drawing, music, and sports will be cancelled for high school students so that they can attend only the basic subjects such math, physics, science, …etc. according to Jarada.
