By Israeli green light, Egypt continues efforts to sustain peace in Gaza Strip
The West Bank – North-Press Agency
As fears of the collapse of the truce in Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian factions increase, the Egyptian security delegation quickly arrived to Gaza Strip, holding a message from Tel Aviv that it was committed to the agreements, and soon followed by a UN delegation in coincidence with the arrival of the Qatari Ambassador Muhammad Al Imadi to prevent escalations.
Mutual messages
The Egyptian security delegation arrived in Gaza on Friday, has held two meetings with Hamas leadership and the factions, carrying a message from Israel that stresses the commitment of the latter to implement the agreements of the truce.
In response, the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine sent a strongly-worded message to Israel with the Egyptian security delegation, which left Gaza Strip on Saturday, saying that “The situation will escalate if Israel does not assume its responsibility to abide by the agreements of lifting the siege on Gaza, and implement measures to change the complex reality of life for the residents of the Gaza Strip”.
On the other hand, Hamas revealed that Qatari and UN delegations will visit the Gaza Strip in the upcoming days to follow up the implementation of the terms of agreements between the factions and Israel, and lifting the siege.
The Qatari and UN delegations will also follow up on the implementation of three projects, the first one is the extension of a new power supply line from Israel to the Gaza Strip under the name of (161), the second project will include the construction of a hospital in northern Gaza Strip while the third project is to repair water problems.
Emergency visits
While, analysts agree in an interview with North-Press, regarding the saying that the visits of the Egyptian delegation followed by the visits of the Qataris and UN delegations to Gaza, are mere “emergency visits” to prevent making things worse by giving hope and promises, without any changes occurred in the citizens’ hard life reality in Gaza.
Nevertheless, it seems difficult to predict the success of the Egyptian efforts unless the practical reality confirms otherwise, which makes them included in attempts that may accomplish something or just keep things the same as before. This means that the Egyptian and international efforts may lead to no more than a “temporary” success in preventing the explosion.
As according to informed sources who told North-Press: the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is unable to abide by calm agreements due to internal reasons, as the factions in Gaza are aware of that.
An Israeli Green Light
The Israeli journalist Yaakov Ezra told North-Press that the Egyptian mission on this regard has been the same for a long time, focusing on maintaining the calm situation in Gaza, as Ezra believes that the arrival of the Egyptian delegation to Israel proves that the latter still gives Cairo “a green light to continue its efforts in stabilizing the truce because Tel Aviv does not want any escalations”.
Furthermore, Ezra pointed to several reasons that make Israel adhere to the truce, of which the most important is that it is about to have new elections next September, stressing that Netanyahu “is doing his best to embrace the field’s issues in Gaza”.
Ezra added that the Israeli measures of calm truce are insufficient to inform citizens in Gaza of a “significant change in their social and economic situation, which has reached a very complex level because of the Israeli imposed siege on the Strip over the past 10 years for security reasons, as they claim”.
He also points out that the longer the truce continues, the greater fishing area will be allowed for the people of the Gaza Strip in the Gaza Sea, in addition to the increase in the entry of truckloads of goods and other things.
“Things are being resolved,” Ezra said, admitting that this calm truce is likely to explode at any moment, especially in light of Israeli belief that Hamas or Jihad will escalate at some point, under Iran’s request due to the current tension in the Gulf region with the United States.
He also said: “Israel takes its precautions and preparations for the outbreak of any confrontation with Gaza,” stressing on “the openness of Israel to all offers presented by Qatar, Egypt and the United Nations to maintain the truce”.
The Israeli journalist Yaakov Ezra concluded his interview with North-Press by saying: “It’s a major Israeli interest to maintain calmness, especially at this stage, as it’s seriously concerned about the continuity of this calmness for a longer time”, because the stability of Gaza means the stability of the south, which means the stability of the government and the stability of the Israeli economy”, he added.
