A human rights report reveals serious violations of women’s rights in Turkey

A human rights report was issued on Sunday by a monitoring organization of the United Nations Human Rights Council, has revealed serious violations against women's rights in Turkey by the current authorities headed by Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
According to the report, which North-Press managed to obtain a detailed copy: "The Turkish regime continues to commit more violations against women, as the Turkish government led by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) is taking advantage of its parliamentary majority to impose laws that violate women's rights.”
According to the report issued by the human rights organization ‘Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights’, “after the failed coup attempt in July 2016, Erdogan regime arrested thousands of women, amounting to 18,000 women, which included all groups of society, and many of these women are routinely exposed to torture and ill-treatment and they amounted to sexual abuse.” The report added that women in general in Turkey face violence at alarming levels, including being killed and beaten, in addition to sexual harassment, assault and marginalization. During the year 2019, violence caused the death of more than 470 women.
The report also mentioned the failure of the Turkish laws and legislation to address the phenomenon of domestic violence in Turkey.
The head of Maat Foundation, Ayman Aqil said that the various figures indicate a high number of victims of domestic violence in Turkey, where the Turkish Ministry of Interior stated that a total of 1,015,337 incidents of violence against women occurred between 2014 and 2019, which resulted in the death of 1,890 women, in addition to the death of 94 women under the protection system.
Ayman Aqil added in a statement that during the year 2019, more than 470 women were killed, including 319 women, due to domestic violence crimes.
Aqil pointed out that the dire situation that women's rights have attained in Turkey is a result of the practices of the current regime and that women are viewed with an inferior look, and this was evident through the statements of the Turkish President in more than one occasion that it is not possible to equate men and women and that this is contrary to the human nature.
The Turkish president also described women who are not mothers as deficient, and before that, he urged mothers to have at least three children and considered birth control a betrayal, which indicates the mentality of Turkey's ruling policy towards women.
