Deir ez-Zor – North-Press Agency
Counter-Terrorism Units (HAT) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have arrested at Tuesday’s dawn a financial official of the Islamic State group (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor countryside, northeastern Syria.
According to special sources in the SDF told North-Press that Counter-Terrorism Units have conducted a security operation in Deir ez-Zor, during which Ahmad Ahmad, nicknamed “Abu Refaa”, was arrested, noting that he was deliberately hiding among civilians’  houses, “without paying attention to their lives as he was trying to hide his operations”.
The sources pointed out that “Abu Refaa” was a financial official of the terrorist group in Baaj, northwestern Iraq, and that he had worked as an official of the Office of Agriculture and Animal Production in Iraq, where he was present in al-Busaira in Deir ez-Zor. The sources added that during the security operation, a civilian called Muhammad Walad was killed.
It is noteworthy that the Counter-terrorism Units of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) had arrested the head of the financial services of the Islamic State’s sleeper cells on Sunday, in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
The Internal Security Forces along with the SDF and YPG have been conducting security operations and arresting campaigns in various areas in north and eastern Syria, in search of ISIS sleeper cells, while the area is witnessing explosions from time to time, by car or motorbike bombs, most of which are adopted by ISIS.
