NE Syria Administration to compensate fires’ affected farmers

The Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria has decided to compensate the farmers who were affected by the large waves of fire that reached their crops for the last agricultural season.

The decision, issued on Monday, includes the compensation of each farmer affected by the fire, by providing seeds free of charge, from the distribution centers of the Economic and Agriculture Authority in the Autonomous Administration in north and eastern Syria.

The decision, which resulted from a July 4 meeting of the Executive Board of the Autonomous Administration and the Economy and Agriculture Authority showed that every farmer affected by the fire would get the same seeds from wheat or barley.

Earlier, the co-chairman of the Economy and Agriculture Authority had told North-Press that the compensation would be for losses and not for profits, as he said: “The compensation will be according to the possibilities”.

The estimated losses of farmers in northeastern Syria as a result of fires, according to the Economic and Agriculture Authority are more than 19 billion Syrian pounds, i.e. about 30 million dollars.

Fires in the agricultural crops had damaged more than 54,500 hectares of lands, planted with wheat and barley, in addition to six harvesters, two tractors and more than 2500 olive trees, in addition to a number of civilian and military casualties.
