On Monday, the Kurdish Red Crescent opened a new hospital named "COVID-19" to receive new cases of the coronavirus in the western countryside of the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria.
Delgesh Issa, the medical coordinator for the Kurdish Red Crescent, stated that the hospital was equipped by the Kurdish Red Crescent with the help of some international organizations, with a capacity of 60 beds for time being, in addition to the availability of oxygen tanks and some medical equipment to deal with moderate cases of the novel coronavirus.
"Shortly, another 60-bed hospital will also be equipped in Hasakah," he said.
He pointed out that discussions are taking place with the Health Boards in both Raqqa and Manbij regions to equip similar centers to receive new cases of coronavirus patients.
However, the new hospital needs ventilators and ICU equipment for situations that need intensive care, according to what the medical coordinator of the Kurdish Red Crescent said.
“Some medical members in Hasakah, and members of the Kurdish Red Crescent, who now number 15, are being trained by doctors from the Italian "UPP" Organization to obtain information and experience on how to deal with coronavirus cases and to receive them in the hospital," according to Issa.
The aim of equipping the "COVID-19" Hospital is to contain the patients with coronavirus and separate them from other suspected cases and to assist other medical centers, according to hospital administrators.
It is worthy that the Kurdish Red Crescent formed an emergency team in Hasakah on the 16th of this month with the increasing fears of the spread of coronavirus epidemic in northeastern Syria, after recording many cases within the areas under the control of the Syrian government.
