Nisreen Doco, the co-chair of the Education Authority in North and East Syria, told North-Press on Wednesday that they took preventative measures during the distribution of staff salaries to prevent the risks of spreading coronavirus in the region.
She added that with the date of distributing salaries at the beginning of this April, school principals were instructed to receive the salaries of the entire teaching staff for their schools and distribute by themselves for fear of overcrowding and gathering in front of school management centers in northeastern Syria.
On March 14th, the Autonomous Administration decided to close all schools, institutes and universities (students and teachers only) until further notice to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Autonomous Administration centers and institutions were crowded during the distribution of salaries last March.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has set 15 days as a period of lockdown in its areas, starting on March 23rd, with the possibility of extension in case of necessity and the public interest.
On March 23rd, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration issued an appeal to the residents of its regions, noting that protection measures against coronavirus should not be confined to what the Autonomous Administration has implemented, and stressed the importance of residents complying with safety measures.
