The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has expressed its concern over the lack of funding for the humanitarian organizations in Syria, as the aid provided for internally displaced people and afflicted people in various regions has diminished after the first half of 2019.
The humanitarian organization explained that the lack of funding for humanitarian organizations operating inside Syria has become worrying, especially after these organizations had only received 27% of the needed money for disaster relief around the world, after passing of six months of this year.
NRC relied in its information on UN data which revealed that 7 billion dollars had been received out of the 26 billion dollars required to provide relief to about 94 million people, as 1.71 billion dollars were received out of the 5.51 billion dollars required for Syrian refugees.
Jan Egeland, the Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council had confirmed: “The current shortfall in funding is a matter of concern, and despite the increased needs, the money available for humanitarian assistance is much lower than it was during the same period of last year”.
He added that the rate of donation decreased this year at about two billion dollars of the funding received in mid-2018.
He also mentioned that the amount was not very high but “a matter of priorities, total military expenditures around the world had increased to 1.8 trillion dollars, noting that “the cost of closing the humanitarian funding gap and providing basic support to people is just 1% of that”.
Egeland compared the state of funding for the Syrian refugees and the crisis in Cameroon in terms of the same situation, which is covering less than (20%) of the coverage needed in the crisis.
Most of the Syrian territories suffer a significant decrease in the relief aid for IDPs, in addition to the lack of support for refugees in the neighboring and regional countries and different parts of the world, which raised the resentment of Syrians in light of local, regional and international humanitarian and relief organizations talks about the great support for the Syrians IDPs and refugees.
