A wedding party in the southern countryside of As-Suwayda governorate in southern Syria had witnessed gunfire during the ceremony, resulted in the killing and injuring of some people, participating in the wedding.
Local people in the village of Anz in the southern countryside of As-Suwayda confirmed to North-Press that a quarrel broke out between a driver from the village and some young men attending the wedding venue, who came from a neighboring village of al-Mughayr.
Sources in the village indicated that the quarrel was most likely caused by a verbal dispute between the young men and the driver after the latter blocked the way by parking his vehicle in front of a bus which the young men riding, as the altercation turned to a fistfight.
Local residents confirmed that a young man of al-Mughayr village was carrying his rifle and shot fire randomly during the quarrel, killing and wounding some other young men.
The sources pointed out that the shooter was “mostly drunk and could not control his weapon as he randomly fired towards the fight”.
A medical source at Salkhad Hospital told North-Press that two young men arrived at the hospital and died due to gunshot injuries, in addition to two others were also shot, one of them was in critical condition.
It’s worth mentioning that the phenomenon of using weapons is recently spreading randomly in weddings and funerals, resulting in many civilian victims, despite the “religious bodies’ ban” of the use of weapons in such events, amid anger of the citizens regarding the absence of police and security authorities’ role in controlling this phenomenon that has become very dangerous in most occasions.
