An Iraqi official has disclosed an agreement, in al-Qa’im district on the Syrian-Iraqi border, regarding the re-opening of Al-BuKamal border-crossing between Syria and Iraq in about two months.

Al-Qa’im district manager Ahmad Jidyan, announced in a special statement to a Russian media outlet in Iraq on Monday, that an agreement was reached in al-Qa’im district, which borders Syria, to re-open the border crossing with the Syrian city of Al-Bukamal soon.

Jidyan said that the agreement had been reached with the National Security Adviser, Faleh al-Fayad, and the director of Iraqi border crossings Kazem al-Fayad, and the Syrian ambassador to Iraq, along with delegations of the joint operations on re-opening the border crossing within six months after the meeting’s date.

Furthermore, Jadian explained that the visit of the above-mentioned officials has two months left, yet “We have not seen any work on the ground at the border’s location, which was chosen by the delegations that visited the district about four months ago.”

Earlier, an official source at the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus said that the work on the opening of Al-Bukamal crossing on the Syrian-Iraqi borders had reached advanced stages.

Syria and Iraq are linked by three border-crossing points, the crossing of Al-Yarubiyah, which is opposite to the Iraqi side of Rabia and it’s now under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Al-Waleed crossing on the Iraqi side known as Al-Tanf crossing in Syria, and Al-Qa’im border crossing on the Iraqi side, which is opposite to Al-Bukamal crossing, under the Syrian government control.
