Turkey does not stop bombing us and is not committed to the international initiative – Elham Ahmad

On Sunday, Elham Ahmad, the President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said that Turkey does not stop bombing the northern regions of Syria and it is not committed to the United Nations' ceasefire initiative, in light of the world's response against coronavirus outbreak.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres made an appeal on Monday for an immediate ceasefire around the world to protect the most vulnerable civilians in countries of conflict, with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Elham Ahmad said on Twitter: "Turkey doesn't stop bombarding civilians, even for one day, starting from Afrin to Tal Abyad, Ein Issa, and Tal Tamr in Hasakah.”

She added, "‪While the whole world is busy confronting coronavirus epidemic, Turkey is bombing our people.”‬
She pointed out that Ankara does not abide by the United Nations' call for a ceasefire in Syria, while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are fully committed to it.

On Sunday, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups bombed the villages of Sherawa and Sharran districts in the Afrin region and targeted the densely populated town of Tal Rifaat, in northern Aleppo countryside.

Local sources from the village of Soghana told North-Press that Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups stationed in the neighboring village of Kemar targeted the village at 9:30 this morning with more than 15 shells.

For the past two years, the village of Soghana, south of Afrin, has been under almost daily bombardment by the Syrian armed opposition groups and the Turkish forces, causing the displacement of more than 150 families from the village, destroying several houses and wounding dozens of residents, including several women and one child.
