On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Council demanded that all parties in Syria release all detainees and kidnapped persons, reveal the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons, and reveal the locations of their arrest and detention.
The Syrian Democratic Council announced through a statement its support for quick action for the families of detained, kidnapped and missing persons by local and international organizations and bodies to stand up to the suffering of detainees and their families and adopt their demands.
The statement called on organizations and bodies to adopt the demands of the families of the detainees and the kidnapped, and to put pressure on all parties in conflict.
The statement expressed its hope that the cause of detained, kidnapped and forcibly disappeared persons would be a humanitarian issue that is above negotiation, and it should not be linked to political developments.
"Therefore, we announce our readiness to work jointly with every Syrian civil and human rights organization, with the aim of forming a working group from the families of detained and kidnapped individuals, as well as legal professionals and social activists. The mechanism of the group’s work and their names will be announced in a special press conference, in addition to work to make this issue constantly present in light of the recent military and political developments, give it moral, political, and humanitarian importance, and bring it back to the spotlight again," read the statement of the Syrian Democratic Council.
The Council stressed that it will carry out all it has to do in order to make the required progress and remove all ambiguity in the detention issue, and the series of steps and procedures will be announced as soon as possible.
The Syrian Democratic Council statement came in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 regarding Syria, and confidence-building measures, which included releasing detainees from prisons (which were not implemented) in addition to receiving news on bad conditions of detention, and WHO instructions on ways to prevent infectious diseases with the outbreak of coronavirus epidemic and the mandatory application of social distancing.
