The EU foreign affairs representative highlights the Syrian crisis in Baghdad

The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini has arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday to discuss the situation in Iraq in particular and the region in general.

She was received upon arrival by Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad al-Hakim and a number of Iraqi officials.
In a joint press conference topped by the Syrian crisis, Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad al-Hakim stressed that the crisis in Syria must be resolved without military intervention, in addition, the Syrian people have the right alone to decide their own destiny, stressing on the restoration of relations between all components of the country.

Al-Hakim called for “The departure of all foreign forces from the Syrian territories in order to reach satisfying solutions for all the components in Syria”.
The two sides discussed a number of important issues, the war against the Islamic State and its defeat with the support of the Global Coalition, as well as the quantity of the stolen antiquities and their restoration to Iraq.
Moreover, the two sides also discussed the aid provided by the European Union countries to Iraq, which amounted to about 400 million dollars deployed for the reconstruction of the liberated cities from ISIS control.
On the other hand, al-Hakim stressed during the conference on increasing tourist features between the EU countries and Iraq, and facilitating the tourist tasks for Iraqis.
