Barzani describes Kurdistan Region ties with Syria as developing
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, on Saturday said his government has good relations with Damascus, describing them as developing.
Barzani praised the Kurdistan Region’s relations with Turkey in an interview with Al Jazeera news channel, saying they are very good and marked by cooperation.
He added that they support the Iraqi government in ensuring that weapons are held only by regular forces.
Barzani stressed that no party has pressured them to become involved in the war, and they do not want to be part of any conflict in the region, adding, all they want is to protect the Kurdistan Region and keep it away from any conflict.
Masrour Barzani said the Kurdistan Region has been subjected to more than 1,000 attacks by missiles and drones.
He said the attacks on the region came either directly from Iran or from inside Iraq through some militias.
He added that they do not have relations with Israel, and foreign policy is the responsibility of the federal government.
