Syrian body confirms death of journalist, son missing since 2013
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s National Commission for Missing Persons on Monday announced it had determined the fate of journalist Bassam Bahra and his son, Samih, who disappeared in Damascus on April 28, 2013.
Bahra was a Syrian journalist who worked for Damascus Radio. According to media reports, neither he nor his son, Samih, was known to have been involved in military activities or affiliated with any armed group.
The commission said in a statement that, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, its investigation concluded that the two were killed after being taken by members of the al-Assad regime’s security services to a house in Damascus.
The commission said the family had been informed of the findings in accordance with established procedures that respect the family’s right to know the truth and preserve the dignity of the victims.
It added that efforts will continue to locate the victims’ remains and return them to their family.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to determine the fate of all missing persons in Syria.
