U.S. strikes IRGC sites in Iran after attempted missile attack
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Thursday that its forces carried out on Wednesday a large wave of strikes against targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in response to what it described as an attempted Iranian missile attack on U.S. troops in the Middle East.
According to a statement released by the CENTCOM, the strikes were conducted at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on July 29 and targeted dozens of military sites across Iran, including command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense positions, and maritime assets.
CENTCOM added that the operation aimed to reduce threats posed by Iran and its allied groups to U.S. forces, commercial shipping routes, and neighboring Gulf countries.
The military command pointed out that the strikes came a day after IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iranian territory in what it described as a surprise attack against U.S. military bases in the region.
“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said, adding that no casualties or damage were immediately reported.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated sharply in recent days following a series of military confrontations and reciprocal strikes across the Middle East, raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.
CENTCOM said more than 50,000 U.S. service members remain deployed across the Middle East and are maintaining a high level of readiness.
“U.S. forces remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready,” the statement said.
Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official response to the latest U.S. strikes.
