Explosions, fires reported near base hosting US forces in Erbil

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A series of explosions and fires were reported on Friday near Erbil International Airport in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, close to a military base hosting US-led international coalition forces.

Media reports said at least seven explosions were heard in the area, while plumes of smoke were seen rising near the airport after air defense systems were activated. Drones were also reported flying over the city during the incident.

Security sources later announced that flight operations at Erbil International Airport had resumed after being temporarily suspended following the crash of a drone near the airport.

The incident comes amid repeated drone attacks targeting Erbil since tensions between the United States and Iran escalated again in the region.
