Israeli forces clear road to military barracks in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces on Tuesday withdrew from the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, after carrying out a brief incursion to clear a road leading to the al-Jazira military barracks, local sources told North Press.
The sources said an Israeli force, including an armored vehicle and a military bulldozer, advanced into the outskirts of Maariya village in the western countryside of Daraa, where troops opened the road leading to the al-Jazira barracks.
The sources added that the force completed the road-clearing operation before withdrawing from the area.
The sources indicated that during the incursion, Israeli soldiers damaged a motorcycle parked outside a civilian home by opening fire on it. No injuries or arrests were reported.
The latest operation comes as Israeli forces continue military activity in southern Syria following the collapse of the Assad government in December 2024. Ground incursions have become increasingly frequent in the border areas of Daraa and Quneitra, where Israeli troops have carried out patrols, engineering work, and temporary deployments.
Israel says its operations are intended to prevent hostile groups and weapons from establishing a presence near its border, while Syrian authorities have repeatedly condemned the incursions as violations of the country’s sovereignty.
