Iraqi oil tankers attacked by unknown gunmen inside Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A group of Iraqi oil tanker owners said their vehicles were attacked by unknown gunmen while traveling through Syria, calling on the Syrian security forces to take urgent measures to secure transport routes and protect drivers.
According to statements circulated on social media by the tanker owners, the attack occurred while the tankers were traveling along one of the routes designated for transporting petroleum products inside Syrian territory.
The owners said the incident was not isolated, noting that their tankers had been subjected to similar armed attacks on several previous occasions.
“Our tankers have been attacked several times inside Syrian territory by armed assailants, causing growing concern among tanker drivers. We call on the Syrian security forces to protect the tankers,” the owners said.
The drivers urged the authorities to take immediate steps to secure the roads and ensure the safe movement of oil shipments. They stressed that the continued transport of petroleum products depends on effective security measures along transit routes.
They also called on the relevant authorities to strengthen security procedures and provide armed escorts for oil convoys to ensure the safety of drivers and maintain the uninterrupted flow of fuel supplies.
No Syrian authority had issued an official statement regarding the reported attacks at the time of publication.
