DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Deir ez-Zor Media Directorate on Saturday announced that security forces arrested several former security officials who served under Syria’s al-Assad regime in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
In a statement, the directorate said the operation targeted Fadel Mohammad Moeen al-Nuwaiji, a former Political Security investigator who served in the Abu Kamal town in Deir ez-Zor countryside and held several positions within the al-Assad regime’s security branches.
Authorities also arrested Ahmad Suleiman al-Maibi, the former head of the armament division in the National Defense Forces (NDF), who was responsible for the group’s sniper units, and Mohammad Ramadan al-Alim, the former head of the General Intelligence Directorate prison. Officials said al-Alim is under investigation over allegations of abuses against detainees.
The operation further included the arrest of Ismail Hanoush al-Abdullah, a former member of Military Intelligence, who is also being investigated over allegations of involvement in arbitrary arrests.
The Deir ez-Zor Media Directorate said investigations are ongoing and called on anyone with complaints or information related to alleged violations committed by any of the detainees to contact the relevant authorities and submit evidence to support the investigations and legal proceedings.
