Syrian authorities seize explosives cache linked to Damascus bombings
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian authorities announced on Friday that security forces had seized a cache of explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) allegedly belonging to the cell accused of carrying out the July 7 bombings in the capital, Damascus.
In a statement, the Syrian Interior Ministry said intensive investigations led authorities to a secret hideout that the group had reportedly used to store explosives in preparation for what it described as a series of planned “terrorist attacks.”
According to the ministry, Internal Security Forces carried out a raid on the site after obtaining information from members of the detained cell during questioning. Security teams recovered several explosive devices, which engineering units later dismantled, rendered safe and destroyed in accordance with approved technical procedures.
The announcement follows a statement issued on Thursday by Interior Minister Anas Khattab, who said the security services had arrested all members of the cell responsible for the July 7 bombings in Damascus.
Khattab added that the identities of the suspects, their individual roles and their alleged affiliations would be made public once investigations are completed.
The Interior Ministry said investigations remain ongoing to locate any additional hideouts linked to the cell and to complete legal procedures against all those involved.
