ISIS claims responsibility for killing man in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) late Wednesday claimed responsibility for the killing of a man in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
In a statement, the group said its militants stormed the home of Rashad Khalaf al-Ghurair in the village of Ruwayshid and killed him by slitting his throat.
Earlier, Syria TV news channel reported that the 60-year-old al-Ghurair had been killed by unidentified attackers in the village, noting that initial suspicion had fallen on ISIS.
Al-Ghurair worked as a practitioner of ruqyah (Islamic spiritual healing) and herbal medicine and was locally known for providing what is commonly described as spiritual treatment.
The incident comes amid ongoing Syrian security operations targeting ISIS cells.
Earlier, Syria’s Interior Ministry announced the results of security operations carried out over the past three months, saying authorities had arrested 235 suspects and dismantled seven ISIS-linked cells as part of efforts to curb the group’s activities across the country.
