Lebanese president says al-Sharaa’s remarks received positive response
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Wednesday that recent statements by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa were met with a broad positive response in Lebanon, emphasizing that coordination between Beirut and Damascus remains ongoing across various issues.
Aoun made the remarks while receiving two Dutch ministers in Beirut, according to the Lebanese presidency.
The Lebanese president said al-Sharaa’s recent statements “received a very positive response” and helped put an end to recurring speculation regarding the possibility of a Syrian military role in Lebanon.
On Sunday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said that US President Donald Trump had expressed concern over developments in Lebanon and that his remarks had been misunderstood. His comments came in response to recent statements by Trump regarding a possible Syrian role in addressing the issue of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Speaking in an interview with Al Mashhad TV, al-Sharaa said: “Our vision is based on supporting the Lebanese state once again, strengthening its institutions, and seeking a solution that everyone believes in.”
Relations between Syria and Lebanon have remained a key issue for both countries, with officials from Beirut and Damascus maintaining contacts on political, security, and economic matters.
