ISIS claims attack targeting judicial official in Damascus countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Wednesday responsibility for an attack that targeted a judicial official in southern Damascus, a day after an explosive device attached to the official’s vehicle seriously injured him.
On Tuesday, Salah Ahmad al-Saleh, head of the Justice Palace Department in the town of Babila in rural Damascus, sustained severe injuries when an explosive device detonated on his vehicle in the Daff al-Shawk neighborhood of Damascus, according to local and Arab media reports.
In a statement released through its affiliated channels, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as part of its operations against state institutions.
The incident comes amid a series of attacks recently claimed by the group in different parts of Syria.
On Tuesday, ISIS also claimed responsibility for an attack targeting an oil tanker near the city of Manbij in northern Syria. The group further announced that it had carried out an assault on a camp affiliated with the Syrian Interior Ministry in Raqqa city.
According to the group’s statement, the attack in Raqqa resulted in the killing of two security personnel and the injury of others.
ISIS lost its last territorial stronghold in Syria in 2019 following military operations led by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with support from the Global Coalition. Despite that defeat, the group continues to carry out sporadic attacks in several areas of Syria.
