US, Iran move closer to deal despite nuclear disputes
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that negotiations between Washington and Tehran have not yet reached a final agreement, but noted that significant progress has been made toward a possible understanding between the two sides.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said the United States is now in a position to significantly hinder Iran’s nuclear program, while discussions continue over several unresolved issues, particularly Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and nuclear enrichment activities.
He added that negotiations are still ongoing regarding parts of the wording of a potential memorandum of understanding, stressing that it remains too early to determine when US President Donald Trump might sign the agreement or make a final decision on it.
In the same context, Reuters quoted informed sources as saying that the United States and Iran had reached a preliminary agreement to extend the ceasefire and ease restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, pending Trump’s official approval.
Vance said he could not guarantee the complete success of the negotiations, but expressed optimism that an agreement could be reached during the coming period.
