Syria says 25 million Captagon pills seized in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday the seizure of 25 million Captagon pills and the arrest of seven people accused of involvement in an international drug trafficking network.

The ministry said the operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Department following investigations and monitoring efforts that led to the discovery of a shipment prepared for smuggling.

Malik Moussa, assistant director of the Anti-Narcotics Department for technical affairs, said the seized narcotics were “estimated at 25 million Captagon pills packed professionally inside pottery containers.”

He added that security forces dismantled the network involved in the operation, arrested all seven members of the cell, including its alleged leader, and referred them to the relevant judicial authorities.

The announcement comes days after the Interior Ministry said on May 14 that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Captagon pills into Jordan. According to the ministry, smugglers had used airborne balloons equipped with tracking and remote-control systems in an attempt to bypass border surveillance measures.

Captagon trafficking has remained a major security concern in Syria and neighboring countries in recent years, with repeated announcements by Syrian authorities and regional states regarding anti-smuggling operations.
