Over 3,000 unregistered Kurdish families apply for Syrian citizenship in Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – More than 3,000 unregistered (Maktoumeen) Kurdish families have applied for Syrian citizenship in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, a member of a committee overseeing the registration process said on Wednesday.
Abdurrahman Farho, a member of the committee responsible for registering unregistered residents known as “Maktoumeen al-Qayd,” told North Press that five registration centers were opened on April 6 to receive applications and had witnessed a large turnout from applicants.
The registration process for unregistered Kurds in Hasakah began more than a month ago.
He added that work is continuing in three centers after authorities extended the registration deadline, which had originally been set for one month.
According to Farho, the number of registered applicants has exceeded 3,000 families comprising more than 10,000 individuals. He noted that the registration process is expected to conclude by the end of the current week.
