Syrian president receives US envoy in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received on Saturday US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack at the People’s Palace in Damascus, according to the Syrian Presidency.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed recent developments in Syria and the wider region, the presidency said in a statement.

The discussions also addressed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Damascus and Washington, in addition to issues of mutual interest, according to the statement.

Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani attended the meeting.

The meeting comes amid ongoing diplomatic contacts between Syria and regional and international actors following recent political and security developments in the country.
