Israeli force sets up checkpoint in Syria’s Quneitra

QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – An Israeli military force on Tuesday advanced into the southern countryside of Quneitra in southern Syria and established a temporary military point near the town of Rafid.

A local source told North Press that the patrol, consisting of five military vehicles from the Israel Defense Forces, moved sequentially toward the area and set up the position.

The move came only hours after another Israeli incursion in the same governorate. In that earlier movement, more than 30 soldiers reportedly set up a checkpoint on the Ofania–Khan Arnabah road north of Quneitra, where they stopped passersby and inspected movement along the route, causing tension among residents.

The military point established near Rafid remained in place at the time of writing.

Border areas in Quneitra’s countryside have witnessed repeated Israeli movements in recent months along the frontier strip, raising concerns among residents over growing security tensions in the area.

Local residents say such incursions and temporary checkpoints disrupt civilian movement and heighten fears of further escalation.
