Gunmen wound 2 Defense Ministry members in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two members of Syria’s Defense Ministry were wounded in separate shooting incidents by unidentified gunmen in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, easter Syria, a military source from the 86th Division told North Press on Monday.
The source said assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire with a pistol at Imad al-Dakhel, a member of the 86th Division, near his house in the town of Abu Kamal while he was on leave.
Al-Dakhel was shot in the chest and transferred to a hospital in Damascus for treatment, the source added.
In a separate attack, another Defense Ministry member, Amer al-Shallash, was targeted with automatic gunfire on the road between the towns of al-Zabari and al-Asharah in eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Al-Shallash sustained two gunshot wounds to the foot and chest, according to the source.
No group has claimed responsibility for the two attacks so far. Government intelligence services have launched an investigation to identify and pursue those responsible.
