QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A man and a woman were injured on Thursday after a landmine exploded in the village of Mahshiyet Sheikh Obeid in the countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria.
Local sources said the explosion occurred in the village’s surroundings, causing injuries to both civilians. No further details were immediately available regarding their condition.
Syrians continue to face the dangers posed by landmines and explosive remnants of war scattered across several regions following more than a decade of conflict. Thousands of civilians have been killed or injured by such explosives, many of them children.
On Monday, four members of the same family — a man, his wife, and their two children — were injured when an unexploded ordnance detonated while they were working in a rudimentary scrap collection warehouse in the city of al-Bukamal in the Deir ez-Zor countryside.
Explosive remnants of war remain one of the most serious threats facing civilians in Syria, particularly in rural and previously contested areas.
