Government forces arrest former regime military official in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces of the Syrian transitional government on Wednesday arrested a former military security official of the Bashar al-Assad regime in the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A security source told North Press that a patrol raided the house of Youssef Jomaa at dawn. He is accused of involvement in violations and torture against civilians during his time in the Military Security branch of the former Syrian regime.
According to the source, Jomaa had been staying out of sight and living outside Deir ez-Zor, but recently returned to the city, prompting security services to move swiftly to arrest him.
The operation followed what the source described as a long and precise tracking process. Forces also confiscated a personal weapon and identification documents found in his possession.
